Frequently asked questions
If you are considering a hair transplant, but still have some unanswered questions, you can always contact us in order to find out the answer. Alternatively, read this page. We have listed the frequently asked questions for you below.
Can anyone have a hair transplant?
No, it depends on the quality of the donor hair, which is the hair that will be used to re-populate the thin or bald patches with hair. Other decisive factors to take into account are the cause of the hair loss and the patient’s health. In order to determine whether you qualify for a hair transplant, we advise you to book an initial, free consultation with us. During the consultation, we will assess the hair quality and provide you with personal advice.
Is the result of a hair transplant permanent?
Yes. The hairs that we implant come from the donor area, which are the hairs from the back and side of your head. These hairs are genetically stronger and, therefore, do not fall out. This means the hairs we implant in you will continue to grow.
What is the difference between an FUE and an FUT hair transplant?
In the case of an FUE hair transplant, hairs are replaced one by one. This is performed under local anaesthetic and does not result in any visible or permanent scarring. An FUT hair transplant is a surgical operation during which a strip of hair is cut from the head, after which the hairs are selected from it and re-implanted. This is more invasive, requires a longer recovery period and causes permanent scars.
How do you obtain the new hairs?
The new hairs are selected from the donor area. The hairs, including the roots and follicles (grafts), are harvested from the scalp.
How many treatments do I need?
This entirely depends on the quality of the donor hair and the size of the area to be treated. Generally, only one treatment is needed for 80% of our patients.
How long does a treatment last?
One treatment will last a full day, approximately 8 hours. During this period, we will first harvest the grafts, prepare them and finally implant them. This is done one by one and it is a highly precise procedure. That is why the treatment takes a full day.
When do I see the result of a hair transplant?
The hair follicles will start to grow after a few days, but they will fall out after a week or two. This is completely normal and, therefore, there is no need for concern. Rest assured, the hair follicles remain in the scalp and three to four months after the hair transplant, the hairs will start to grow again. On average, a hair grows a centimetre a month and, therefore, it can take up to a year after the hair transplant before you can see the ultimate and best possible result.
Is a hair transplant painful?
Since the area to be treated will be anaesthetised, the treatment is completely painless.
Can I start washing my hair immediately after a hair transplant?
After one week, you can start washing your hair again as usual. Until then, we advise you to wash your hair carefully using a special shampoo. You will receive special instructions to that end. Please note that we strongly advise against making the area with the newly implanted hairs wet during the first three days after the treatment.
How long does the recovery period take after a hair transplant?
During the first two weeks after the treatment, the skin is in the process of recovery. Crusts and red patches will gradually disappear. Your scalp will fully heal thereafter.
Can I resume working immediately after a hair transplant?
We recommend taking at least one week of rest, preferably two, to allow time for recovery. This will be conducive to the end result.
Can I resume exercising immediately after a hair transplant?
No. Sweating profusely during the first couple of days is strongly advised against. After one week, you can engage in some light exercise again. After two weeks, you can resume your normal exercise routine.
